ASUS has pulled back the curtain on what it calls the world’s first WiFi 8 gaming router. The new device, named the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro, was announced at COMPUTEX 2026.
The router is built on the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard, which is better known as WiFi 8. ASUS claims the router can hit a theoretical top speed of 30Gbps. That is significantly faster than most current WiFi 7 routers, which typically max out around 23Gbps.

Unlike previous generations that focused mainly on raw speed, Wi-Fi 8 is designed to deliver ultra-high reliability and lower lag. It also improves how multiple access points work together. The ROG Rupture GT-BN98 Pro uses a quad-band design and advanced multi-access point coordination to achieve these goals.
To keep the router running at peak performance during heavy gaming sessions, Asus has included an active cooling system. This features an aluminum heat plate with a nanocarbon coating to prevent overheating. The router also comes with two 10G ports and supports link aggregation up to 20Gbps.

There is a major catch, however. The official Wi-Fi 8 standard is not expected to be finalized by the IEEE until 2028. That means the ASUS ROG Rupture GT-BN98 Pro is more of a future-proof preview than a product you can fully use today. No phones, laptops, or other consumer devices currently support WiFi 8.
ASUS has not yet announced a release date or pricing for the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro.
