Sony has finally launched a successor to the FX3 from 2021. Meet the new Sony FX5.
The new Sony FX5 cinema camera boasts a 16.6-megapixel 35mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS sensor. It is paired with a BIONZ XR2 processor with AI processing for better subject recognition and Auto Tracing White Balance. The sensor is attached to a 5-axis optical stabilizer.
A highlight feature is the full-frame Open Gate recording, allowing you to use the entire sensor to shoot a 3:2 video. It can shoot videos of up to 5K@120fps and 4K@240fps.
It also boasts on-device 16-bit linear RAW recording and uses the X-OCN format with LT, C1, and C2 codecs. Sony also added the Dual Gain Shooting function that improves dynamic range and lowers noise by combining the output from low and high gains.
The FX5 has 15+ stops of dynamic range and has base ISOs of ISO 800, ISO 4000, and ISO 12800.
As for the rest of the hardware, the FX5 accepts dual CFexpress Type A and SD cards, uses 2,670mAh NP-SA100 batteries, and a built-in cooling fan so you can shoot videos up to 170 minutes in length with no interruption.
You also get a 3.5-type 16:9 monitor with tilt, down, side, and rotation adjustments. For connectivity, the FX5 has WiFi, Bluetooth, USB-C 2.0, HDMI Type-A, 3.5mm mic/headphone jack, and LAN port.
The Sony FX5 body only has an SRP of Php318,000 in the Philippines. You can get it with the XLR Handle bundle for Php349,000. You also get a free NP-SA100 Battery valued at Php6,400 if you register to the My Sony Rewards.
