It’s been a while since Kitkat was officially announced to the public, but there has yet to be a locally-branded Kitkat phone in sight. That might change soon as the image of the Cherry Mobile Urban from off of a leaked brochure has started circulating the Cherry Mobile and MyPhone Rio United groups.
Based on this image, the Cherry Mobile Urban will feature a 4.5 inch qHD screen and 1.3GHz quad core processor. It will also come with 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and an 8mp camera. However, the most exciting feature is that it’s expected to run Android 4.4 Kitkat!
Up until now, no local phones have come with Android 4.4 simply because they mostly run on MediaTek chipsets. MediaTek doesn’t release its source code, insisting instead to develop and release it themselves.
This is one reason it might be questionable to assume the Urban will be able to come out with Kitkat so soon, simply because MediaTek hasn’t released Kitkat software for their SoCs yet. Either that or the Urban is powered by a Qualcomm chip, which I also doubt.
Still, there’s a very good chance Cherry Mobile will surprise us with the first local Kitkat phone to market. So what do you guys think? The phone is decent enough at just Php4,999, but will Kitkat make it a game-changer? Let us know in the comments :)

I’m assuming its MTK simply because KitKat is said to be released this month for MTK devices also Qualcomm chips are way too cheap at this price rate. And it’s already running KitKat which is a real deal but CM didn’t stated the battery capacity which is really doubting xD I just hope they won’t make a 1500Mah battery for this other than that it’s a piece of crap
