The Google I/O has begun, and unlike previous years, hardware takes center stage for this one. The company has introduced a couple of new devices, including the Pixel 7a.

One prominent feature that Google Pixel 7a has is the Tensor G2 processor, a similar chipset found on the flagship Pixel 7 Pro. It is joined by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Designed by Google themselves, the chipset offers better computational tasks and efficiency.

Obviously, it will run on the latest Android 13 operating system. It’s also the first to receive major upgrades in the future, plus, Google pledged to give 5 years of security updates.

While they share the same chipset, the Pixel 7a is still more affordable. Hence, it’s only getting a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. That’s good news for those looking for a small and more compact smartphone since there are not a lot of decent options out there.

On the back, we have a clean design similar to its brothers. A pill-shaped lens holds the 64-megapixel 1/1.73-inch Quad Bayer sensor that can do Super Res Zoom of up to 8x. OIS is also included and can record up to 5K videos at 60fps.

It is joined by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens with Dual Pixel autofocus. On the front, there’s a 13-megapixel sensor for selfies.

The back panel is plastic — no surprises there. It does have a metal frame made from recycled aluminum and is IP67 dust and water-resistant. It comes in four colors: Coral, Sea, Snow, and Charcoal.

Since it’s quite small, the Pixel 7a only managed to have a 4,385mAh battery with 18W wired charging. What’s interesting is, it was able to get 7.5W wireless charging support — a first in the series.

The Google Pixel 7a, in a sole 8GB/128GB configuration, has a price of INR43,999 (~Php29,900) in India. We haven’t seen Pixel devices officially available in the Philippines. Hopefully, this time we will.
