HTC has announced the new Mediatek variant of the Desire 820. With the new chipset in tow, it promises even better performance than the Snapdragon 615 unveiled several months ago.

The HTC Desire 820s sports the Mediatek 1.7GHz octa-core MT6752, made up of Cortex-A53 cores and buffed up with a Mali T760 GPU.The Snapdragon 615 version is also an octa-core SoC but has a big.LITTLE archictecture with half of the A53s clocked at 1.5GHz while the rest is at 1GHz.

HTC Desire still has its old 5.5-inch HD (720p) display, 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and LTE Connectivity. HTC’s famous Boomsound speakers found in the HTC One M8 is also in tow together with a 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front-facing cameras.

No information about pricing and availability just yet, but we suspect this device to sell in the same countries as the original 820.
