OPPO has reused a couple of old smartphone names. This time, we have the OPPO A59, which has the name moniker as the device unveiled back in 2016.

Launched in India, the new OPPO A59 2023 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 processor, with an option between 4GB and 6GB of RAM, and a single 128GB storage configuration.

An entry-level release, we have the usual 6.56-inch LCD with only an HD+ resolution, but with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate. A waterdrop notch holds the decent 8-megapixel selfie camera.

On the back, we have OPPO’s latest design language. A clean, bump-less camera island holds the 13-megapixel main shooter and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

As expected, it comes with a 5,000mAh battery with 33W SuperVOOC charging. It ships with Android 13-based ColorOS 13.1 interface.

The device is also IP54 certified for being dust and splash-resistant. It also passed OPPO’s 36-month fluency test, which means it should retain a similar performance for three years as the day you first got it.
