OPPO’s goal with the A-series is to deliver strong value for budget-conscious buyers. But does the new OPPO A6s 5G achieve that?
Judging by its specifications and starting price of Php22,999, we’re not convinced the OPPO A6s 5G stands out in today’s highly competitive market. Will our opinion change after spending time with the device? Let’s find out.

Design and Build Quality
The OPPO A6s 5G has a striking rear design. Our review unit comes in the Ice White colorway, featuring what OPPO describes as “white glacier layers” illuminated by “the sun’s sparkling rays.” We think that description is fairly accurate.
The unique pattern gives the phone a distinct character, and it’s something we genuinely like. A Cappuccino Brown variant is also available for those who prefer a darker finish.
The rear panel is made of plastic and features a matte, textured finish that feels pleasant to the touch and resists fingerprints well.
Beyond the design, the build quality feels similar to that of a typical midrange device. The flat frame provides a secure grip, but the phone is noticeably thick and on the heavier side.
We’re not particularly fond of how bulky it feels in hand, though it certainly looks appealing. It also comes with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance.
On the front is a 6.75-inch IPS display with relatively thick bezels and a punch-hole cutout housing the 16-megapixel selfie camera.
The left side houses a hybrid SIM tray that supports either two nano SIM cards or one nano SIM and a microSD card.
On the right are the volume buttons and the power button, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The buttons feel tactile and clicky, although we wish the power button protruded slightly more.
The top is empty, while the bottom houses the microphones, USB-C port, and loudspeaker.
At the back is a square camera island containing the 50-megapixel main camera, 2-megapixel mono sensor, LED flash, and a dedicated selfie mirror.
Display and Audio
The OPPO A6s 5G features a 6.75-inch IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 1,125 nits of peak brightness. Unfortunately, it only has an HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720, resulting in a relatively low pixel density of around 256ppi.
Sharpness is the display’s biggest weakness, and it’s particularly noticeable if you’re coming from a FHD+ smartphone.
On the bright side, it supports Widevine L1, allowing HD streaming on platforms such as Netflix. Brightness is also sufficient for outdoor use.
Thankfully, the A6s 5G comes with stereo speakers. While the treble could be cleaner, overall sound quality is respectable. Bass is present, stereo separation is noticeable, and volume levels get impressively loud.
However, clarity starts to suffer at maximum volume, especially when using the 300% Volume Boost mode.
Hardware and Performance
One of the most disappointing aspects of the OPPO A6s 5G is its hardware. At this price point, we expected something more powerful than the MediaTek Dimensity 6300. It’s a reliable chipset, but it feels underwhelming considering the asking price.
OPPO A6s 5G Benchmark Scores
The device comes with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, paired with 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Storage expansion is available via the microSD card slot.
In daily use, performance feels sluggish. It can handle basic tasks adequately, but we expected significantly more from a phone in this price range.
We didn’t have high expectations for gaming performance, but we tested it anyway. Genshin Impact was playable at 60fps, but only using the Lowest graphics preset.
Call of Duty Mobile ran smoothly at Max frame rate under Medium graphics settings. PUBG Mobile performed well at Ultra frame rate with Balanced graphics, while Farlight84 was playable at High frame rate under Smooth graphics settings.
On the positive side, lighter games performed without issue. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang ran comfortably at its highest available settings, while Asphalt Legends delivered smooth gameplay, albeit capped at 30fps.
Overall, the OPPO A6s 5G delivers a disappointing gaming experience for its price segment.

Software and User Interface
The OPPO A6s 5G ships with Android 16-based ColorOS 16. OPPO promises two Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. While the long-term security support is commendable, competing devices at this price point already offer three or more Android version upgrades.
What we do appreciate is how polished ColorOS has become over the years. It’s clean, intuitive, and accessible for both beginners and power users.
The device also features OPPO’s Trinity Engine, which is designed to maintain a smoother overall experience.
However, we’re disappointed to see the absence of AI Summary and AI Dictation in the Smart Sidebar, features we’ve come to appreciate on other OPPO smartphones.
You still get an AI Assistant within the Notes app, allowing you to copy-and-paste or create documents and have AI improve formatting, shorten content, or continue writing. AI Summary in the Voice Recorder app is also available, although it requires signing in with an OPPO account.
Several AI-powered editing tools are present in the Gallery app, including AI Recompose, AI Eraser, AI Perfect Shot, Enhance Clarity, Unblur, and Remove Reflections.
The preloaded app folders filled with suggested bloatware remain annoying, though they can be removed easily.
There’s also a built-in performance optimization app that may appeal to performance-conscious users, but we’re not fans of the advertisements displayed within it.
As for security, both the side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock performed reliably and quickly.
Cameras
The OPPO A6s 5G features a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 2-megapixel mono sensor, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. There’s also an LED flash and a dedicated mirror for taking selfies using the rear camera.
For video recording, the rear camera supports 720p and 1080p at 30fps and 60fps, while the front camera supports 720p and 1080p at up to 30fps.
Other camera modes include Portrait, Pro, Hi-Res, Slow-mo (720p@120fps), Dual-View Video, Underwater Mode, and a document scanner.
Daylight photos look decent, but we’ve seen many competing devices produce better results. Detail levels are adequate, though colors can appear overly saturated at times, particularly greens. Dynamic range is also weak, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
Image quality deteriorates further at night. Noise and grain become very noticeable, dynamic range suffers significantly, and colors can either appear washed out or overly saturated.
The front camera performs well in good lighting. Skin tones look natural, and detail levels are acceptable. In low light, however, noise becomes more apparent, shutter speeds slow down, and dynamic range declines.
Overall, we’re disappointed with the camera performance. Better image processing could significantly improve the results, and we hope a future software update addresses some of these shortcomings.
Battery and Charging
The OPPO A6s 5G packs a massive 7,000mAh battery paired with 80W SUPERVOOC charging.
Battery life is excellent, although several competitors in the segment still managed to outperform it. In our testing, it lasted 19 hours in the PCMark Battery Test and 15 hours and 37 minutes in our 1080p YouTube video loop test.
The phone’s biggest redeeming factor is its 80W charger. A quick 15-minute charge already restores 29% battery, while a full charge takes just over an hour.

Verdict
The OPPO A6s 5G is a smartphone that leaves us conflicted. On one hand, it offers a premium-looking design, excellent battery life, ultra-fast 80W SUPERVOOC charging, stereo speakers, and an IP69-rated durability — features that are genuinely appealing and help it stand out from many competitors.
However, those strengths are overshadowed by its biggest problem: value. At a starting price of Php22,999, the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor feels underpowered, having an HD+ display is disappointing, and the camera performance falls short of what we’d expect in this segment.
While ColorOS remains polished and feature-rich, it isn’t enough to compensate for the hardware shortcomings.
The OPPO A6s 5G isn’t a bad smartphone. In fact, it’s a decent device for users who prioritize battery life, durability, and charging speed above all else. The problem is that there are simply better-balanced alternatives available at this price point that offer stronger performance, sharper displays, and more capable cameras.
Unless its price drops significantly, the OPPO A6s 5G is difficult to recommend over its competition. However, it’s important to note that all smartphones and components have suffered from the extreme price increase caused by the demand for AI, so other brands are also pretty expensive right now compared to previous years.

The OPPO A6s 5G 6GB/128GB has an SRP of Php22,999 in the Philippines, while the 8GB/256GB is available for Php25,999. Alternatively, you can get the 4G model for only Php17,999.
