Google has officially released its latest Pixel phones, and there are four of them. For now, we’ll looking at two of them, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
The new Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL is powered by a Tensor G4 chipset, the same found on the also-new vanilla Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It’s a 4nm chip with a 1x Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.1GHz, 3x Cortex-A720 at 2.6GHz, and 4x Cortex-A520 at 1.95GHz.
It also comes with a dedicated Titan M2 co-processor for security and an Exynos 5400 modem, which is said to bring better efficiency.
Of course, the main highlight for Pixel phones is the software. The series has Google’s Gemini AI, which is behind a lot of its special software features. One of them is called Add Me, which lets you add a person to the photo. You can take a picture of your friends and be in it too.
It also lets you fix the facial expressions of the persons in the photo, crop to a subject and enhance the quality, and clean image blur. Google Gemini also lets you frame a photo wider with auto-fill, remove distractions from the shot, adjust a subject’s position in the frame, and more.
More than photography, Gemini AI also lets you circle an item in a photo and quickly search it on Google, summarize Google Docs, ask Gemini for a more comprehensive Google Search, and more.
There’s also a new feature called Pixel Screenshots that can analyze details from your screenshots, and look for special details later using Gemini.
Going back to hardware, the Pixel 9 Pro series has 50-megapixel 1/1.31-inch main cameras and two 48-megapixel 1/2.55-inch sensors for the ultra-wide and 5x telephoto shooters. All rear cameras have Multi-zone LDAF. A 42-megapixel sensor is on the front for selfies.
The main difference between the two is the sizes. The Pixel 9 Pro has a compact 6.3-inch display with a 2856 x 1280 resolution while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch panel with a 2992 x 1344 resolution. Both devices use Super Actua LTPO panels with up to 3000 nits of peak brightness, 1-120Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victrus 2.
Both models have been upgraded to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which is 50% faster than the previous generation.
The XL model obviously has a bigger battery, too. It has a 5,060mAh capacity while the smaller Pixel 9 Pro has a 4,700mAh. The duo will share the same 45W charger.
Oh, and there’s also a slightly new design with a refreshed camera bump. They will ship with a clean version of Android 14 and are secured to receive 7 major Android upgrades.
The Pixel 9 Pro has a price of USD999 (~Php57,000) for the 128GB, USD1,099 (~Php62,700) for the 256GB, and USD1,219 (~Php59,600) for the 512GB. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro XL has the same storage configurations for a price of USD1,099 (~Php62,700), USD1,199 (~Php68,400), and USD1,319 (~Php75,300), respectively.
