One of Samsung’s entry-level smartphones has undergone a refresh for more accessibility and ergonomic features. Known as the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance, this is a dual-core handset with an ample 4.7-inch display.
The look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance borrows heavily from the original Core. Even the tech specs are quite the same save for a couple of minor upgrades in connectivity features. The main difference is obviously the larger screen. It’s also worth pointing out the return of the all-physical navigation buttons (including dedicated buttons for voice recording and the camera) when Samsung’s other smartphone offerings favor employing capacitive buttons.

As to why they’ve bothered refreshing the Core line with the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance, the Korean tech giant has apparently acknowledged the needs of the elderly, disabled, and visually impaired for a more ergonomic and accessible smartphone. The all-physical keys are part of the intuitive design, along with a coated back cover for increased grip and comfort.
Many apps that were initially exclusive to Samsung’s high-end phones have also made their way into this entry-level device. These include S Voice, Sound & Shot, Group Play, and more. Accessibility features include Optical Scan (that will have the device read texts in images aloud to the user), Light Sensing (auto adjustment of brightness via the camera sensor), and Instant Voice Recorder. There’s also a Voice Guided Camera for assistance in taking pictures.
The expected launch date of the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance will be sometime in January 2014. No pricing information has so far been announced, although we do know the phone will be offered in either Deep Blue or Pearl White color variants. A number of accessories will also be available soon.
