Apple just made small but substantial upgrades to its all-in-one machine, the iMac, now powered by an M4 chip.
The top-tier iMac M4 comes with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 24GB of unified memory, and 512GB of storage. On the product’s official webpage, Apple describes that the new model is up to 6x faster than the most popular Intel-based iMac, up to 2.1x faster than an M1-powered chip on demanding creative workflows, and up to 4.5x faster than a competing all-in-one computer powered by Windows.

Meanwhile, the 10-core GPU is said to be 2x faster than the M1 GPU and 1.1x faster than the M3 in terms of gaming. There’s also a more powerful Neural Engine, which is 3x faster than the M1’s.
Apple also claims that the new iMac is Built for Apple Intelligence — a suite of AI features that also work with iMacs powered by M1 and later. Such features include Writing Tools that let you rewrite, proofread, and summarize texts.

It also lets you search for photos with a more natural language and enables a feature called Image Playground, which is Apple’s take on AI Image Generators found on other AI-powered computers.
The new chipset also upgrades the connectivity. For the top-tier model, you now get four Thunderbolt 4 ports that let you output two 6K 60Hz or one 8K 120Hz display and have gigabit ethernet support. The base model only has two, lacks gigabit ethernet, and only supports a single 6K 60hz external screen.

Another upgrade is the 12-megapixel 1080p webcam with an ultra-wide lens and support for Apple Center Stage. Apple’s Desk View feature is also here, which uses the camera to shoot a top-down video from your table.
Apple has also revamped the colors so they stand out better. The same accessories are available. The infamous Magic Mouse has been updated to USB-C charging, albeit the odd placement is the same.
