2K Sports released a video unveiling Lebron James as the cover athlete for the Special Edition of the NBA 2K19. The cover athlete for the Standard edition is still unknown to this point. It is the second time Lebron has been the cover of the game; the first one was in NBA 2K14.

This might also be bad news for some Cleveland fans as there is an NBA 2K Cover “Curse” where the cover athlete leaves their team after a season. LeBron James could possibly leave this year as he will be a Free Agent after the playoffs and is also currently down 0-3 to the Golden State Warriors this NBA Finals.

The NBA 2K “Curse” Cover Athletes include: Lebron James himself on NBA 2K14 (left Miami to go back to Cleveland), Kevin Durant on NBA 2K15, (Left the OKC Thunder to join the Golden State Warriors) Paul George on NBA 2K16 (Got traded from Indiana to the OKC Thunder) and the most recent one — Kyrie Irving on NBA 2K18 (Got traded from Cleveland to Boston)

For those getting the NBA 2K19 Standard Edition, it is expected to be released on September 11, 2018. But if you’re getting the NBA 2K19 Special Edition, you get to play 4 days early as they’ll be releasing it on September 7, 2018. The Standard Edition is expected to be priced at $59.99 or around P3,150. Meanwhile, the Special Edition NBA 2K19 is expected to be priced at $99.99 or around P5,250.

* Please take note that the prices are based on the US price release. Official price in the Philippines is currently unknown, but it should be close to international pricing.
