It was a big night for Sony and Team Asobi (PlayStation Studios) as Astro Bot won four in this year’s Game Awards 2024, including the biggest award of the night, the Game of the Year. They also took home Best Game Direction, Best Action / Adventure Game, and Best Family Game.
Other nominees for the Game of the Year are the indie game Balatro, fan-favorite action game Black Myth: Wukong, the controversial Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Sony Interactive Entertainment received the most nominations as a publisher, with 15 total nominations for Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, Helldivers II, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Ghost of Yōtei — they won six.
Other publishers with multiple wins are Playstack and Sega, which won three each for Balatro and Metaphor: ReFantazio, respectively. Game Science won two from Black Myth: Wukong and Xbox Game Studios for Hellblade II.
For the esports scene, League of Legends (LoL) is dubbed the Best Esports Game for this year’s awarding, beating other popular games, such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Valorant.
In addition, League of Legends GOAT Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok added another award to his legendary gaming career after winning the Best Esports Athlete, with his T1 crew winning the Best Esports Team. Some may even say these awards are almost inevitable.
