The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) announced that the digital tax identification (Digital TIN ID) is now available.

As per BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui, Filipinos who already have a tax identification number can apply for the Digital TIN ID via the BIR Online Registration and Update System (ORUS).

Lumagui said that the new digital system will help eliminate fixers and scammers that are selling TIN online, all while providing taxpayers a more convenient way of obtaining TIN, instead of spending hours traveling and lining up at district offices.

But first, users must update their email address by submitting a Registration Update Sheet via email to the Revenue District Office they are registered, or via BIR’s Service – Taxpayer Registration Related Application Portal.

Once clear, the user can now create an ORUS account and follow the step-by-step process there.

Users will also need to submit an image of themselves before they can receive the digital TIN ID. Those who will upload unrelated photos — such as artists, cartoons, animals, and other people’s photos — will receive a penalty.

The BIR digital TIN ID is considered as a valid government-issued identification document that can be accepted in different government agencies, LGUs, employers, banks, and other institutions.

It won’t have the user’s signature but its authenticity can be verified via the included QR code.
