The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) revealed that the PhilSys National ID will soon be made available for download on mobile devices.

To be able to enjoy the benefits of the national ID, Filipinos currently need to get the digital version (ePhilID) or a printed copy. But by early 2023, the DICT will also make it available for mobile devices.

Officials of the DICT and Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) said that this is another way for the PhilSys ID to be more accessible despite delays in the printing and distribution of the physical cards.

According National Statistician Dennis Mapa, the agency tasked to do the printing of the cards is Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Currently, they have a capacity of printing 80,000 to 100,000 national ID cards every day. To quicken the process, the BSP is working on increasing its production to 130,000 per day.

The PSA plans to release 50 million IDs before 2022 ends. 20 million is from ePhilID and 30 million are physical cards. So far, 22 million PhilSys ID cards have reached Filipinos. On the other hand, almost 2 million ePhilIDs have been printed as of writing.
