Senator and presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao have met with executives from SpaceX, an American aerospace company by billionaire Elon Musk.

The meeting came after Pacquiao expressed his intentions to work with Elon Musk-owned companies to improve the internet situation in the Philippines as well as expose the country to the international science scene, creating jobs for Filipinos along the way.

Pacquiao met with Rebecca Hunter, SpaceX’s senior manager for government affairs last Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

“The involvement of SpaceX in our country will not only bring in investments and jobs but will also put up at the forefront of space science. Nakaka-excite ang possibility na ito at kung ano magagawa nito para sa bansa natin,” says Pacquiao.

Last February, Converge ICT head Dennis Anthony Uy announced that they were able to reach a fiber lines lease agreement with Starlink.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte recently signed a law allowing full foreign ownership of companies like telcos, which may affect how Starlink plans to do business in the country.

As of writing, Starlink is available in 29 countries. But just recently, the company announced a price hike for its starter kit and services. It now requires an upfront cost of USD599 (around Php31,400) with a USD110 (around Php5,800) monthly fee.
