Nokia announced on Wednesday a partnership deal with Globe Telecom that will see the installment of 5G network across Philippines’ second and third largest islands.

Aside from the establishment of a new up-to-date network, the Finnish multinational company will also see the upgrade of existing 4G network, further solidifying the network operator’s number one status in the entire region.

The financial details involved in the deal, however, were not disclosed.

Following its drive for expansion, Globe said on Monday of having established 5G networks across 1,069 areas across the country. In particular, throughout 848 areas within Rizal and Metro Manila as well as 221 locations within Visayas and Mindanao.

Globe President and CEO, Ernest Cu, claims that the rollout of 5G supports the company’s vision “of empowering Filipinos to create the life they want.”

Meanwhile, rival companies Smart and PLDT are also ramping up their efforts in order to position themselves in the 5G service.
