Market analytics firm Canalys reported that the global smartphone market experienced growth in Q1 2024 after it shipped 296.2 million units, which is 10% higher compared to the same quarter last year.
Dominating the top five list is Samsung, who stole the top spot from Apple. The South Korean tech giant shipped 60 million units in the first three months of 2024, owning 20% of the market. Meanwhile, Apple only shipped 48.7 million iPhones for 16% market share.

Canalys attributed Samsung’s success to the refreshed Galaxy A series, the brand’s budget-friendly line-up, and the strong demand for the Galaxy S24 flagship series.
In fact, Samsung shipped 13.5 million units of its flagship line, which is a 35% year-over-year improvement over its predecessor.

Xiaomi is at number three with 40.7 million units or 14% of the market. Meanwhile, Transsion settles for the fourth spot, despite pooling the shipments from its three brands: Infinix, TECNO, and Itel.
OPPO is only the BKK-owned company on the list, managing to take the fifth spot with 25 million units or 8% of the market.

Canalys also highlighted how emerging markets have continued helping drive global shipments. Shipments in APAC increased 16% compared to the same quarter last year, Africa experienced 23% growth while the Middle East had 27%.
