As to how Xiaomi managed to achieve second place, Canalys cites Xiaomi’s aggressive, mass-market product pricing along with “channel partner consolidation and more careful management of older stock in the open market.”

All vendors in the top 5 have experienced an increase in shipments. Canalys attributes the economic recovery and vaccine rollout as factors leading to a strong growth momentum for global smartphone shipments.
