Meta has introduced a free badge for Facebook profiles. The check mark is designed to show that a real human, not a bot or a fake account, is using that profile.
To earn the new badge, users must simply submit a short video selfie. Facebook then compares that video with the photos already on the profile to confirm a match. The company says this check takes only a few minutes.
Take note that you have to be at least 18 years old to qualify and your account also needs to be in good standing. This means no past issues with scams, fraud, or fake behavior. The badge is not available for business pages or ProMode accounts, as it is only for personal profiles.
At first, the badge will appear on profiles, in Marketplace listings, in Dating, and inside Groups. Later on, Meta plans to add it to regular Feed posts as well.
The free FB check mark badge is a simple feature that helps people know they are dealing with a real person before they reply to a sales post, accept a chat request, or join a group conversation.
However, the badge should not be treated as a stamp of approval. Having the check mark doesn’t mean that Facebook confirms the person is safe or trustworthy. It only confirms they are not a fake account, so users are still advised to watch out for FB Marketplace scams.
Meta’s new Facebook badge is completely free to use, but it’s rolling out in stages. It’s not the same as Meta’s paid verification subscription service, which offers extra features like extra account protection and customer support. The free badge has one job: to verify real people.
