But wait, here’s a recent dating app making its rounds in the Philippines, and it’s both LGBTQIA+ and older user-friendly. While Tinder and Bumble are open to people regardless of gender and appropriate age, they cater more to young individuals than those who have reached a certain age.
Not to worry, Thundr PH is here to make meeting people less awkward and more accessible to the older generation. Thundr is the first and only application in the Philippines whose target users are LGBTQIA+ members aged 35 and above.
The app aims to show that members of the said community can still find true partnership and love even as they age. Thundr says, “Age is never a reason to lose your thunder,” Advocating that relationship possibilities are not limited to age or gender.

What makes this app unique is its no-rejection policy. This means that, unlike Tinder, where you can swipe the other way to reject a user, Thundr promotes accepting everyone in the community, whether you are looking for a mare (friend) or a jowa (partner). There is also a compatibility percentage feature for users to determine stronger or potential matches with another user.
Thundr PH has not officially landed on the Apple App Store, but Android users are free to install the said app through the Google Play Store, and creating an account includes both phone and email verifications, as well as a short series of compatibility questions which is actually helpful for the app to guide you in terms of your preferences, lifestyle, and characteristics.
From there, it’s just swiping whether you want someone as mare or jowa. Once a connection is established, there is a 24-hour time limit to message one another, or the ‘match’ status will expire.
Similarly, the app is free to install, but you can pay a subscription to remove ads and unlock more features, such as unlimited swiping. A portion of the subscription fees go to chosen LGBTQIA+ non-profit organizations.
