Heat Wave, Carlos Yulo, and Inside Out 2 among Top Google Searches for 2024

Like all the apps and services showing their Year Review, Google continues its tradition with Year in Search, which defined the Philippines in 2024.

The overall top trending topics showed Filipinos’ interest in staying informed and updated on the latest news, trends, and happenings here and abroad. 

Google Philippines Overall Top Trending Searches 2024

The top search term for 2024 is “heat wave,” which is a big deal during the summer but has been forgotten recently since it’s been raining and flooding. It was followed by the death of actress “Jaclyn Jose” earlier this year, while the “Olympics” came in third. The hit sequel, Inside Out 2, also appeared in the Top 5.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist “Carlos Yulo” led the Sports search terms, with fellow Olympian “EJ Obiena” sitting at #8. Various NBA teams and matchups during the playoffs also received significant hits during the middle of the year.

Jay R topped the music category, along with fellow OPM hits, Sarah Geronimo’s “Maybe This Time” at #3 and “Palagi” by TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan at #5.  Bruno Mars’ two collabs, “APT.” with Rosé and “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga, took second and fourth place, respectively.

The rise of artificial technology (AI) also resulted in an increase in AI-related searches. “AI detector” led the list, followed by “Gemini,” “ChatGPT,” “Humanize AI,” and “AI Chat,” completing the top five. This shows the Filipinos’ desire to be up-to-date on the latest innovations in this year’s e-Conomy SEA Report.
