After the underwhelming public sentiments toward the Vision Pro, it looks like Apple is preparing to enter a new product category with the rumored release of a smart doorbell this 2025.

Reputable Apple reporter Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that the upcoming Apple smart doorbell will come with Face ID, a facial recognition tech found on Apple’s mobile devices since the iPhone X.

The report added that Apple has developed an in-house wireless network chip called Proxima, which is tasked to ensure all images captured from the Face ID are stored and processed locally.

Since it’s an Apple product, users can back up their data to iCloud for seamless interactions between Apple’s ecosystem of devices.

Apple is also expected to adopt the Thread smart home standard, but it’s yet to be seen if the smart doorbell will be paired with an Apple-branded smart-lock system or if they will team up with third-party smart home security makers.

Gurman added that Apple is still in the early development stages for their smart doorbell, so a late-2025 announcement is expected.
