A group seeking to cash in on Huawei’s success was caught in an illegal trade by making bootlegged Huawei devices by relabeling their own cheaply-produced gadgets.

The scheme caught the Jianxi Province police’s attention back in August which led to the discovery of the criminals, their mode of operation, and recently, a bust.

According to the police, the perpetrators are into the manufacturing of devices using inferior components, which is then flashed with a ROM that made the device look like a legitimate Huawei product. The counterfeit products would then go into circulation and sell for cheap, duping unwary consumers.
