Google recently announced its decision to raise the subscription price for Google One cloud storage plans starting on February 18, 2025, increasing the rates for new and existing subscriptions.
As you know, newly created Google accounts automatically come with 15GB of free cloud storage, which is shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. However, if your storage becomes full, you can either create a new account for a fresh 15GB of storage or subscribe to Google One.
For the longest time, the monthly subscription for the lowest tier (100GB) was only Php89. However, the latest news indicated that the monthly cost is now Php119 (a ~33% increase). This price hike also applies to other plans.
The pricing changes with Google One plans include an increase in subscription tier prices, which included their generative AI (GenAI) tool Gemini, in addition to the previous inclusions.
Here’s the new Google One Pricing model for the Philippines:
- Basic (100GB) – Php119 per month (from Php89)
- Premium (2TB / 2,000 GB) – Php559 per month (from Php479)
- It also comes with unlimited Magic Editor saves in Google Photos and Google Workspace premium features.
- AI Premium (2TB / 2,000 GB) – Php1,100 per month (price unchanged)
- It also includes Gemini Advance, Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and more, NotebookLM Plus, and all other benefits from the lower-tiered Premium plan.
You can also opt for the annual subscription to enjoy a discount of up to 35%.
Besides the Philippines, the Google One price update will also be implemented in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, and the United Republic of Tanzania.
“When current Google One members renew their subscription on or after 21 March 2025, they’ll be charged the new price. If existing members don’t want to renew their subscription at the new price, they can cancel their membership on or before 20 March 2025,” Google stated.
Here are some important dates:
- Feb. 18, 2025 – new Google One members will be charged the updated price.
- Mar. 18, 2025 – price update starts for Google One members on a monthly subscription through the Apple App Store. Cancel on or before March 17, 2025.
- Mar. 21, 2025 – existing subscribers renewing their plans will get billed at the new rate.
With Google One’s latest price update, current subscribers can either agree to pay the premium or switch to a cheaper cloud storage provider. However, if you think about it, the Php119 per month for the 100GB upgrade costs the same as a cup of coffee.
