After Qualcomm revealed that it is extending its software support by up to 8 years, HONOR has also made its own announcement of extending the update support for its high-end line of smartphones.

HONOR said that, starting now, all HONOR Magic devices will receive 7 years of major upgrades and security patches — putting it at the top list of brands that offer the longest software support.

This announcement is part of HONOR’s “Alpha Plan”, a new strategic plan that “focuses on human-centric AI designed to enrich lives.”

Sadly, HONOR didn’t detail how many updated legacy Magic devices still have left. Still, it’s great news for people who invested a lot of money in their high-end smartphone and plan to make the most out of it by continue using it for years to come.

HONOR is looking at it from the sustainability angle. Having extended support translates to reduced e-waste. Hopefully, HONOR’s midrange and entry-level devices will receive extended support soon too.
