Honor has announced its partnership with IMAX for its upcoming flagship.

You might know IMAX as a company that runs theaters with ultra-large and immersive screens. What not a lot of people know is that the movies shown in their theaters are actually shot mostly using their proprietary cameras, films, and shown using their own projectors.

Honor announced that they have partnered with IMAX Enhanced for the flagship Honor Magic 3, which is expected to arrive this August 12.

The announcement was made on Honor’s Weibo page, which shows a teaser of the Magic 3 with IMAX technology. From what it looks like, the camera design on the back looks a lot like a film reel.

Basically, it allows 4K HDR content to be played on HDR10+.

This is the first time that IMAX Enhanced will be seen on smartphones. Before the Magic 3, it’s present in a couple of TVs, and commercial projectors and AVRs.

Besides IMAX technology, being a true flagship, the Magic 3 is expected to come with a Snapdragon 888 Plus processor.
