Rakuten Kobo has recently unveiled its latest innovation in the world of e-readers, introducing two new color models—the Kobo Libra Color and the Kobo Clara Color—along with a new black and white version, the Clara BW.

These new devices are equipped with E Ink Kaleido 3 displays that offer a dual-mode reading experience. Users can enjoy crisp 300ppi for black and white content or switch to 150ppi color mode, which is designed to bring images, such as book covers and illustrations, to life despite a reduced resolution.

The Kobo Libra Color boasts a 7-inch screen, while the Clara Color features a slightly smaller 6-inch display. Beyond the displays, these e-readers carry on from their predecessors with some familiar features, including IPX8 water resistance. Both color versions also come with upgraded 2GHz processors, which aim to address the performance lag noticed in previous Kobo models.

The Libra Color stands out as the higher-end option among the two. It includes convenient physical page-turning buttons, is compatible with the Kobo Stylus 2 for note-taking, offers a larger 2050mAh battery (compared to the Clara Color’s 1500mAh), and provides ample storage with 32GB of space. This model is priced at £199.99 or $219.99. In contrast, the Clara Color is available for £139.99 or $149.99, and the Clara BW is the most affordable at £119.99 or $129.99.

All three models are set to be available starting April 30, but for those eager to get their hands on these e-readers, pre-orders are already open on Kobo’s website.
