OPPO has released its Innovation and Intellectual Property White Paper during the World Intellectual Property Day.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) said that OPPO is in the top 9 globally in patents filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2023. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Chinese tech giant made it to the global top ten.

As of March 31, 2024, OPPO said that they have filed over 101,000 patent applications globally, with more than 55,000 of them granted, and 91% of all patent applications are utility-based.

OPPO achieved this thanks to its large investment in R&D in areas such as image processing, speech technology, computer vision, native language processing, and machine learning.
As per the company, they filed 5,399 AI-related patents globally as of March 31, 2024, which includes 3,796 utility patents made for AI imaging. In fact, as per IPRdaily, OPPO is ranked ninth in China for having a total of 3,743 AI-related utility patents granted.

OPPO is also focused on creating an intellectual property ecosystem, which will include breakthroughs in areas such as AI, 5G and 6G networks, flash charge, and imaging.
As per OPPO, they have already deployed 5G essential standard patents in more than 40 territories across the globe. They have also filed over 6,100 families of global patent applications, have declared more than 3,300 families of 5G standard patents to the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI), and have submitted more than 11,000 5G standard-related proposals to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).
OPPO has also applied for a bunch of imaging-related patents and has started licensing its VOOC flash charge tech to over 50 companies.
The company also highlighted its commitment to resolving IP licensing issues by signing licensing or cross-licensing agreements with different patent owners globally.
OPPO will continue to prioritize innovation as part of its “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World” mission.
