It’s already one thing that our government supplied outdated equipment for its employees, but apparently these books and computers were bought at ludicrously expensive prices.
According to a report by News5, a DepEd supplier charged Php400,000 per computer package, which consists of some educational software, instructional materials, 1-day technical support, accessories, and a desktop unit computer that’s powered by obsolete components—Intel Pentium IV, 128MB RAM, 40GB internal storage, Nvidia GeForce 4 graphics, and Windows 98 SE. Such a package should only cost around Php15,000 today (and I’m even being generous on that estimate). And even when they were bought in the early 2000s, the Php400,000 price per package would still be completely outrageous.
Other suppliers had also billed the government for books at Php200-300 each, when they should only be priced less than Php100 because of their cheap materials. Worse, these suppliers are apparently still in business with the government.
To put everything in one word: corruption. Two DepEd officials (who still remain in office) are allegedly in collaboration with these suppliers. They’re apparently receiving some kickbacks for buying overpriced equipment.

Due to licensing ng mga software at kamahalan ng hardware that time.
whats new ???? lahat ng makakakotong papapel … galing galing !!!
Early 2000 pa yung purchase which means Win 98 is still the supported operating system for government work. Maximum cost for a PC with such a configuration is probably between P25k to P40k depending on the brand of the parts and peripherals. With a fully licensed OS and multiple original software included in the package, pwedeng umabot ng close to P100k max.
Still P400k is really out of this world. Maraming kumita dito. At the time pa, most companies use pirated software so malabong umabot sa presyong 100k per machine yan.
Well, if the purchase was done around 1984, that would’ve been worth it. Imagine, a full colored OS interface dated 98, hardware for graphics, tons of storage and memory, that would’ve been a bomb in 1984. Was the purchase dated? 15,000 today? Nah, wouldn’t pay 3k for one of those box. 400k is more than a gaming PC, it would’ve been running on SSDs and multi core server processors.
400k per PC? thats all Intel i7, a Rampage 4 Motherboard, 4 GTX760 Video cards, all 32 gig of RAM and a 2x 4TB hardisk, 1500watts power supply, giant tower case, Liquid cooling, and a 2x 1920×1080 touch screen monitors LOL
yup agree, full super gaming pc n katumbas nyn, wtf tlg, kakagigil!
