It’s already one thing that our government supplied outdated equipment for its employees, but apparently these books and computers were bought at ludicrously expensive prices.
According to a report by News5, a DepEd supplier charged Php400,000 per computer package, which consists of some educational software, instructional materials, 1-day technical support, accessories, and a desktop unit computer that’s powered by obsolete components—Intel Pentium IV, 128MB RAM, 40GB internal storage, Nvidia GeForce 4 graphics, and Windows 98 SE. Such a package should only cost around Php15,000 today (and I’m even being generous on that estimate). And even when they were bought in the early 2000s, the Php400,000 price per package would still be completely outrageous.
Other suppliers had also billed the government for books at Php200-300 each, when they should only be priced less than Php100 because of their cheap materials. Worse, these suppliers are apparently still in business with the government.
To put everything in one word: corruption. Two DepEd officials (who still remain in office) are allegedly in collaboration with these suppliers. They’re apparently receiving some kickbacks for buying overpriced equipment.

Philippine government has so much money to burn. kawawa naman mga taxpayers. its time to slash down taxes. i say to just 10% of monthly income.
hahaha, Donato deleted his mindless post….. ;)
without favoring deped..do we know what software installed in the PC?remember softwares really cost a lot..the desktop may really cost low but legal softwares made in US etc really cost almost more than 100k..lets check first which software this are..remember again that DEPED being a government office needs to comply with copyright issues and buying such must be a licensed one..
Dont be stupid, windows 98 P4 lang yan. mag isip ka nga ng software na aabot ng 100k na maiinstall mo dyan?
at 128mb, tell me what hi-tech softwares can run with it? Ah, I know at least you can run Wordstar…..
Really? and what kind of expensive software can run with that kind of specs? DepEd also don’t have high end system that requires high end software and even their payroll and auditing are manually computed. This is plain bulls**t
Legal software? I say obsolete software (Windows 98)
Clearly, you do not understand that the specs of those computers wouldn’t even stand those so called “softwares”.
It’s a clear corruption act
are you stupid or dumb? a genuine software (an original one cost like less than 20k or lesser)
even if the news is really outdated let’s say it came from 2010 or earlier. the 400k is simply outrageous.
I feel sorry for you, because you either don’t know what the real price is or you simply just didn’t use your head. -_-
According to the list, the OS software (software has no plural by the way) is already included with the (super expensive) price. The price of other software they will use (if they use PC in their manual processes) may have been purchased at a different PR maybe, which may be another high priced request also. So sad.
I am an IT .. .. do you think your software can justify the specs of the computer supplied?.. .. no! .. .. mag isip ka bro.. anong klaseng software ngaun ang pinapatakbo sa 98 or ME environment? ung XP nga inobsolete na at tinanggalan na ng support.. tapos bibilis sila ng older OEMs? .. .. bulok!
The items were bought in 2003. Still damn too expensive in that year! o_O.
