It’s already one thing that our government supplied outdated equipment for its employees, but apparently these books and computers were bought at ludicrously expensive prices.

According to a report by News5, a DepEd supplier charged Php400,000 per computer package, which consists of some educational software, instructional materials, 1-day technical support, accessories, and a desktop unit computer that’s powered by obsolete components—Intel Pentium IV, 128MB RAM, 40GB internal storage, Nvidia GeForce 4 graphics, and Windows 98 SE. Such a package should only cost around Php15,000 today (and I’m even being generous on that estimate). And even when they were bought in the early 2000s, the Php400,000 price per package would still be completely outrageous.

Other suppliers had also billed the government for books at Php200-300 each, when they should only be priced less than Php100 because of their cheap materials. Worse, these suppliers are apparently still in business with the government.

To put everything in one word: corruption. Two DepEd officials (who still remain in office) are allegedly in collaboration with these suppliers. They’re apparently receiving some kickbacks for buying overpriced equipment.

  2. Bitayin na yang senate sa deped. Plunder n yan ah. Windows 98 , alang ng bayad license nyan dhil matagal ng discontinued ng MS yan. Baka office 97 pa nakalagay dyan. Pesteng gobyerno yan

  3. Nasaan ba yang computer business na yan..? Gusto kong kausapin at nang magawang kasosyo haha!
Zombies ang mga mokong… Zombies ng pera.

Gising-gising mga people!

PALITAN LAHAT!!!!!!! i hate 2 sound like a damn commie pero Rebolusyon tlga kelangan tapos kamay na bakal!!!!!!!!!

  6. these is where my hard earned money goes. dapat patayin ang mga kurakot na ito. ibigay ang pangalan ng mga hinayupak at lusubin sa bahay.

  7. Aba, ayus ah!! win98 SE: 10,000 per Genuine CD + MS office 97 (10,000), Educational Software assume its 5 software worth 3000 php each, = 15,000, Whole Unit worth 50,000(w/ Mouse and Keyboard). Accessories(UPS 5,000,) All in All 93,000 php, Tsaka nung panahon ng year 2000, May mga computer Shop na, at original pa ang mga gamit na OS at madaming unit pinarerent noon pa man, kung prepresyuhan mo yung mga rental PC nung year 2000 pa ganitong presyo ng Kalahati sa nabanggit ko (40,000 pesos)! Aba’y Kalokohan talaga tong (400,000 php)!!!!

  8. this is true…. may kamag-anak akong teacher sa manila… sabi nya may nakatatak pa sa mga computers na P250K naman yung presyo. this was last year, and the computers were bought recently lang, not in 2000. sa maynila ito, district 2.

        1. Uh windows license software for kids or education costs only somewhat near a $100. (Check the Microsoft website) and theres a bigger discount package if its for schools…

        2. Brad wag mong ikumpara yung software na ginagamit nyo in your profession. That’s probably pretty high end hence the price, pero yung pinag uusapan natin dito is software that can run on an already obsolete OS with pretty crappy specs.

        3. hello engineer, look at the OR, it says there

          “1 O/S Windows 98 SE”

That’s the only software mentioned in the OR… True that licenses are pricey especially on development software, but that’s the inconsistency of your comment and this post…

        4. that’s funny donato, paki check nga ulit kung ano ano lang kasama sa package? as far as I know ang nabasa ko lang is windows 98 SE w/c wont be as much as your “500k” license. ok let’s say meron pang microsoft office products malabo parin sa package na umabot ng 400k/piece yung unit. I just recently assembled a gaming pc with all high end spec umabot lang ako ng 120k including original OS and a bunch of original softwares. Saang lupalop ka nakakita ng pent IV setup even with original OS and probably office worth 400k? lol

        5. Donato engr ka pala e bkt d mo ginagamit pag ka engr mo? Solidworks And autocad high end software yan and other estimating software, pero yang pambatang software i dont believe aabit ng 400k each yan knowig p4 lag mga computers nila. Makakabili ka nga 3k surplus coreduo na

        6. Natawa naman ako dito. Sure ka ba sa sinasabi mo? I worked as an network engineer in a BPO, Around 3000+ pc ang hinahandle namin at I’m sure hindi aabot sa 500k ang lincense ng W7 Pro Ed. Less maintenance pa yan dahil hosted kami ng MS. if may problem, Supported kami ng MS for FREE.

        9. Talaga manong 500k ? Business package ata yan sinasabi mo ang pinag uusapan dito OBSOLETE software kaya wag mo na ipagmalaki 500k na desktop mo nakakaawa ka na bully ka dto pa mismo sa mga pc geeks na kausap mo hahaha

          1. 5200+ usd o php 230k po ang presyo ng Autocad 2014 License {engineering software po ang autocad
            }

        10. wud a 400k software run with the specs? we do use autodesk products but the company has to upgrade hardware so we can do realtime 3D simulations, maximize the capability of the software. is it rli like they bought a software to run in an outdated system, too efficient it costs 400k.

        11. Comparing specs and price of a 2-3 DECADE technology sa pricing today… Even 400K during those 2-3 DECADE time will give you a better specs and program than these “some educational software, instructional materials, 1-day technical support, accessories, and a desktop unit computer that’s powered by obsolete components—Intel Pentium IV, 128MB RAM, 40GB internal storage, Nvidia GeForce 4 graphics, and Windows 98 SE. ” I mean, I may be wrong for saying “better specs” dahil baka ito na ang best specs during that time (sarcasm), but dude, it is not supposed to cost 400K PER UNIT for a computer like this.

      2. Engineer Donato, I am a professional Software Engineer or in short programmer. Kahit gaano pa kamahal ang isang licensed software FYI lang hindi lang naman yan sa isang unit ini-install. Sa pagkaka alam ko pag bumile ka ng isang licensed MS Windows software package. You can install it in not just two or three units depende yan sa package deal ng company nyo and Microsoft. Just a tip bro, google is a good source of information.

    2. ’98SE?!? Bro, 7K (max na yun) for Win 7. Assuming that during that time (early 2000) 98SE was licensed it would still come out to around 2-3K. Pent IV around 12-15K and NVidia GE Force graphics 4 (wow!) around 5-7k. whole package: not more than 40K. Include 1 day (Isang araw lang po!) training and a few other perifs not more than 80K. 100K mataas na yun. 400K is obvious kickback.
