Sources say that Samsung has begun calling for last orders for LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X memory chips as it plans to focus all its production capacity on LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X.

Production for LPDDR4 chips will continue until the end of 2026 to fulfill all remaining orders.

By the first quarter of 2027, Samsung is expected to convert LPDDR4 production lines to create LPDDR5 memory chips.

This development isn’t that surprising, considering that LPDDR5 is the future and the rightful upgrade to existing chips. It is expected to flag most phones by next year, and could narrow down to midrange and entry-level phones as it matures.

A big win for consumers, the LPDDR5 memory is 50% faster than its predecessor. So you can expect faster budget phones in the future.
