Smart has introduced a new volume-based subscription for watching videos on YouTube. The cheapest package can be had for only Php5.

According to the press release, the YouTube5 or 5-peso package entitles the subscriber with 65MB of data for use on YouTube with one-day validity. That’s approximately 15 minutes of streaming in standard definition. Other packages are also available with better value for the money, listed below:

  • YouTube5: 65MB, 15-minute streaming, 1-day validity
  • YouTube25: 160MB, 35-minute streaming, 2-day validity
  • YouTube50: 400MB, 90-minute streaming, 3-day validity
  • YouTube199: 270-minute streaming, 30-day validity

In addition to YouTube, registered users can also stream content from Dailymotion, Dubsmash, Skype Qik, Viewstream and Vimeo.

To register, Smart subscribers need only text the keyword (e.g., YouTube199) to 9999. They can also dial *121# to avail of the service and other ongoing promos. Both prepaid and postpaid subscribers can use the new video data bundles.

Users receive a message notification upon successful registration. When they spend all their allocated data volume, users are blocked from further viewing and sent to a paywall.
