United States President Donald Trump’s first term saw the crash of HUAWEI in the global market after it prohibited US companies like Google from working with the Chinese tech giant.
Now that Trump is back in office and has started another trade war with China, rumors have it that other Chinese smartphone brands are creating a backup plan in case they face the same fate as HUAWEI.
Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO, and OnePlus are rumored to be exploring the idea of creating a Google-less Android. Similar to what HUAWEI did when they created HarmonyOS after their devices were cut off from access to the Google Play Store.
Rumor has it that the upcoming HyperOS 3 from Xiaomi will start the groundwork for the said move. It’s not clear yet how the brands will collaborate or if they will work on the foundation HUAWEI has already created.
Supporting HUAWEI might be for the greater good for these Chinese companies. The tech giant has already made strides in living without Google. In fact, the recent version of HarmonyOS has already removed Android app compatibility completely.
