Artificial intelligence company OpenAI is reportedly planning to launch a new social media platform dedicated entirely to AI-generated short videos. This would position the maker of ChatGPT in direct competition with established services like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
Sources familiar with the matter told Wired that the key distinction of this new platform is its content. It will exclusively feature videos created by artificial intelligence, significantly reducing the effort required from users to produce content. The app is expected to rely on OpenAI’s own Sora 2 video generation model, with videos initially limited to ten seconds in length.
The platform is also designed to incorporate features common on existing apps. A “Remix” function would let users alter and build upon videos made by others. Users will reportedly be able to upload their own likeness to the app through an identity verification tool.

This move would probably present a new challenge for copyright holders. The report indicates the AI can generate content based on copyrighted material. It would then be the responsibility of creators and organizations to actively opt out to prevent their work from appearing on the platform, a process that could initially cause confusion.
For OpenAI, an AI-only environment could provide them a massive advantage, as it can provide a controlled space to gather data and fine-tune future versions of its Sora video model. But as of writing, the company has not yet commented publicly on these reports.
