Tech brands are preparing for the upcoming new year by releasing updated versions of their operating system. This one is from OnePlus, the OxygenOS 16.
The new OxygenOS 16 gets a facelifted interface, has smoother animations, additional personalization features, and new AI capabilities. We’ll detail the top new features you should be excited about. Plus, we have a list of eligible devices to see if the update will ever reach your device.
OnePlus AI
OnePlus is finally taking AI seriously. Apart from the Google Gemini assistant, you can use AI to extract whatever’s on the screen. Say, create a calendar entry after booking a hotel.
Mind Space is like a Pinterest built-in on your phone, intelligently curated by AI. Min Assistant is also within the Mind Space.
AI Writer, AI Scan, AI Portrait Glow, and AI Perfect Shot are also here.
Customizable wallpapers and home screen
As with most brands, OnePlus also took inspiration from the new iOS 26 with its new wallpaper customizations, including 3D-like wallpapers and adjustable text sizes and fonts.
The Motion Photo and Video Lock Screens make for animated wallpapers that are fun to watch.
Home Screen icons are now also scalable, the app drawer is now more organized (per category or alphabetical, and widgets are now more dynamic.
More optimized for tablets
OnePlus has introduced a couple of new tablets in the past few months. Hence, the OxygenOS 16 was made to fit well with the big screen.
Apart from the split screen, you can have two floating, resizable windows open.
The home screen is also heavily customizable with scalable widgets and app icons. Oh, and that rich lockscreen customization is also here.
Smoother experience
The OxygenOS 16’s new OnePlus Flow Motion animations and Parallel Processing 2.0 make switching between apps, browsing the gallery, and more look and feel faster and smoother.
Multi-platform Sharing
Through the O+ Connect software, you can link your OxygenOS 16 device to a Mac or Windows PC to seamlessly drag and drop files and do screen mirroring.
That same app can be used to directly send files to an iPhone. Touch Interactions lets you share photos instantly with other OnePlus phones by simply bumping two phones together.
You can also sync files and photos or mirror your OnePlus phone’s screen to a OnePlus tablet.
