vivo’s new Y-series smartphone, the vivo Y500 Pro, has some good and questionable differences over its predecessor.
The vivo Y500 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor, an appropriate upgrade over its predecessor’s Dimensity 7300 chip. It still starts at 8GB, but a 12GB option is now available.

What’s controversial, though, is the downgrade to UFS 2.2 storage from UFS 3.1. It also has a smaller 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, but it still has a 120Hz refresh rate. It is also slightly heavier.
On the upside, it is now more durable as it received IP68/69 dust and water-resistant certification.

What’s more, it now has a bigger 7,000mAh battery (from 5,500mAh), with 90W fast charging.
vivo put all the camera resources into its single, ultra-sharp 200-megapixel rear shooter. The selfie camera has a 32-megapixel sensor.

The vivo Y500 Pro is now in China. The 8GB/128GB is listed for CNY1,799 (~Php14,900), 8GB/256GB for CNY1,999 (~Php16,500), 12GB/256GB for CNY2,299 (~Php19,000), and 12GB/512GB for CNY2,599 (~Php18,700). No word yet if it’s coming to other markets like the Philippines.
