realme, when it started in 2018, was known to be a sub-brand of OPPO. In fact, their first smartphone releases were usually branded as “OPPO realme”.

The sub brand grew so much that it started to have a life of its own, ultimately becoming its own, independent brand. Now, some seven years later, reports claim they are coming back on OPPO’s roof.

While both are still technically under BKK Electronics (also vivo), being a sub brand means that realme will have to share a lot of resources with OPPO.

Reports suggests that realme CEO Sky Li will retain his position. Upcoming product will also continue on their release schedules.

However, the move will allow realme to share resources, like after-sales programs, with OPPO. This will help them cut cost and, ultimately, hopefully survive the challenging landscape of the mobile space rooted by price hikes in memory modules.

realme is yet to make the official announcement, so stay tuned.
