In a surprising move, TCL announced that it will acquire a majority stake in Sony’s home entertainment business, which includes TVs and home audio equipment.
The deal will give TCL a controlling stake in Sony’s home entertainment products with a 51 percent share.
As per the joint press release, the partnership will “leverage Sony’s high-quality picture and audio technology, brand value and operational expertise” paired with “TCL’s advanced display technology, global scale advantages, industrial footprint, end-to-end cost efficiency.”
Still, Sony TVs will keep the Sony and Bravia branding.
The discussions toward executing definitive binding agreements between the two companies will happen by the end of March 2026.
Subject to execution of the definitive agreements, regulatory approvals, and other conditions, the new company could start its operations in April 2027.
