If you hate paying monthly fees for your home security cameras, Synology just gave you a new reason to look at its BeeStation Plus.
The company announced that the Synology BeeStation Plus, which launched as a private alternative to Google Drive or iCloud, can now double as a home monitoring system. You don’t need a cloud subscription. You don’t pay any recurring charges. Everything stays on your own hardware.
You just need to buy Synology cameras and connect them to the BeeStation Plus. The device even supports up to four cameras at once. To control everything, you just need to use an app called BeeCamera.

The cameras have built-in AI features. They can tell the difference between a person, a pet, or a car. They also know when someone is acting suspiciously around your property. When something happens, you get an alert on your phone.
You can watch live video from anywhere, as well as scroll back through past events to see what you missed.
The BeeCamera app lets you tweak a bunch of settings so you are not constantly bothered by false alarms. You can set specific times for recording. You can draw zones on the screen that the camera ignores. And you can decide how long the BeeStation Plus keeps old footage before deleting it.
If you see a moment worth saving, a kid taking their first steps or a customer dropping something in your shop, you can move that clip to a special folder. The system will not delete those saved clips even when Synology BeeStation Plus runs low on space.
