An international research group, led by scientists from Ateneo de Manila University, has built a new artificial intelligence system that could make it easier to track heart health. The AI uses information from simple skin sensors to check how well the heart is pumping blood.
The system predicts a patient’s cardiac index. This is a key number that doctors use to understand heart function and decide on the right treatment. To make its prediction, the AI looks at basic body signals like heart rate, stroke volume index, and cardiac output.
In tests, the researchers reported that their model was accurate 97.78% of the time. This high success rate suggests the system could offer a simpler and less costly way to monitor the heart.

Right now, standard heart assessments often need special machines, trained staff, and controlled hospital settings. These tools are usually found in big city hospitals, which means people in rural or under-served areas often struggle to get proper heart checks.
The new AI model avoids these problems. It processes data collected from sensor patches that stick to a patient’s skin. The team behind the project says this method could one day bring detailed heart monitoring to clinics that lack advanced equipment or heart specialists.

The research was led by Patricia Angela R. Abu from the Ateneo Department of Information Systems and Computer Science.
The project comes at a time when doctors are worried about rising rates of heart-related health issues. Conditions like obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes are becoming more common, even in younger people.
