One of Xiaomi’s most popular midrange lineups, the Redmi Note series, is now led by the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max — the most beefed-up device in the series.
How beefed up? This one packs an enormous 10,000mAh battery, paired with an ultra-fast 100W wired charger. It also has a large and sharp 6.83-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6-series CPU, tough build quality, and sharp cameras.
But with an SRP of Php30,990, does it still offer the value for money we have come to expect from the Redmi Note series? We’ll find out in our Redmi Note 17 Pro Max review.

Design and Build Quality
From the distinct pebble-shaped camera island of the Redmi Note 15 series, the Redmi Note 17 series sadly uses a square camera section on the top left — the same design we’ve seen a thousand times before.
Xiaomi makes up for it with its interesting color options, especially the Cloud Blush variant we have here. It uses photochromic technology that resembles a cloudy sky with a pink-orange hue caused by the sun.
If that’s not your cup of tea, the device is also available in Purple, Green, and Black.
While the Note 15 series had a flat frame, its rear panel still had a curvy look. With the Note 17 series, however, everything looks completely flat. The frame is flat, which is great for ergonomics and comfort, while the rear panel also has a flat design for a more modern feel.
All four corners are still curved and smooth, making the device comfortable to use daily.
Xiaomi also put a lot of effort into ensuring its durability. It is IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K dust- and water-resistant, easily one of the highest certifications you can get on a phone, even among high-end devices.
According to Xiaomi, it received a TUV SUD certification for passing a 2-meter, 72-hour water-resistant test. It even has an Underwater Mode in the Camera app to take full advantage of its durability.
It also received TUV SUD and SGS certification for being drop-resistant from up to 3 meters.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max managed to get all those certifications despite having a plastic frame and rear panel. The frame still feels incredibly solid, while the screen is protected by flagship-grade Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
There’s also a free clear case in the box to keep the device protected. A screen protector is also pre-installed.
Overall, we’re big fans of its build quality, but we think Xiaomi could’ve been more creative with the design.
Taking a tour around the device, we have a large 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen on the front, with a 32-megapixel selfie camera on top. The bezels are also very thin.
The left side is clean, while the right side houses the flat volume controls and lock/power switch. The physical buttons are very tactile and clicky.
The top has the noise-isolating microphone and speaker grill.
At the bottom, there’s the SIM tray, which can house two nano SIMs back to back, alongside the USB-C port, microphone, and loudspeaker.
The rear houses the 50-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and dual-tone flash.
Display and Audio
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max comes with a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 2772 x 1280 resolution, up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 340Hz touch sampling rate, 3200Hz instant touch sampling, 3,500-nit High Brightness Mode, 12-bit color, DC dimming, and 3840Hz PWM dimming. It also supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HEVC Advance.
Display quality is as good as expected. It provides ample sharpness when reading text, vibrant colors and deep contrast when watching content, and enough brightness for outdoor use.
The stereo speakers have a full driver at the bottom, while the top speaker is an amplified earpiece. At 100% volume, the speakers are already loud enough, with audible bass and clear treble.
There are also 200% and 400% volume boost modes, which don’t directly translate to 2x and 4x extra volume, but they definitely amplify the sound. However, expect a drop in sound quality when you try to fully max out.
Hardware and Performance
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is powered by a 2.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 octa-core processor with an Adreno 812 GPU. Our unit comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which is sadly non-expandable as there is no microSD card slot.
Redmi Note 17 Pro Max Benchmark Scores
While the chipset looks unexciting on paper, its performance did satisfy us. It feels snappy during day-to-day tasks such as browsing social media, shooting videos, making video calls, and more.
In terms of gaming, we were only able to play Genshin Impact under the Low preset. PUBG Mobile ran seamlessly under HD graphics with Extreme frames, while Call of Duty: Mobile ran under Very High graphics at Max frames.
Farlight84 was also smooth under HD graphics at 90 frames, while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang ran under HD resolution with Ultra map quality and frame rate. Asphalt Legends Unite also ran under High Quality at 60 frames.
Without a doubt, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max handled games under mid to high settings just fine. However, for heavier titles like Genshin Impact, you may have to settle for low settings.

Software and User Interface
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max ships with Android 16-based HyperOS 3. Xiaomi didn’t say how many major OS upgrades it will receive, but it did say that the device will get 6 years of security patches.
HyperOS feels homey, especially for those who are used to Xiaomi’s interfaces. There might be a slight adjustment period if you’re coming from a different brand, but it’s easy to get used to.
There are three different Home Screen modes you can choose from in the settings. There’s the Classic mode, which is enabled by default; With App Drawer; and a Lite Mode designed for the elderly, with bigger UI elements, more accessible calling, improved security, and the old three-button navigation buttons at the bottom.
We also spotted many AI features, including AI Writer, AI Dynamic Wallpapers, and AI Subtitles. Google Gemini is also here.
In the Gallery, you can find AI Eraser, AI Expand, AI Cutout, AI Sky, AI Beautify, and AI Image Enhancer (Ultra HD).
Dynamic Island is also here. It works when playing music, running a timer, receiving incoming calls, and more.
Quick Share and Xiaomi Share are also available for fast file sharing. Of course, it pairs seamlessly with other Xiaomi devices like smartwatches, tablets, and more, with features such as notification sharing, screen sharing, and more.
Cashless payments are also supported thanks to NFC.
In terms of security, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has an optical fingerprint scanner, which was blazingly fast and accurate, as well as face unlock.
Cameras
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max features a 50-megapixel OV51A 1/1.95-inch main camera with a bright f/1.5 aperture, PDAF, and optical image stabilization (OIS). It is joined by an 8-megapixel OV08F ultra-wide 15mm lens with an f/2.2 aperture, but sadly, no autofocus.
A 32-megapixel OV32D selfie camera is on the front with fixed focus.
For video recording, you can shoot in HEVC for high efficiency and H.264 for better quality. All the cameras can shoot in 720p@30fps, 1080p@30fps/60fps, and 4K@30fps. You can also shoot videos at 720p and 1080p @ 120fps.
The main camera takes pleasing photos. Colors are natural, dynamic range is wide, and details are sharp. Photos can look too contrasty, though, which is great if you like expressive photos. However, those who prefer a more natural tone may have to edit every photo they take.
Low-light shots are respectable. They’re not great, but still very usable. Shutter speed and details do struggle a little, but exposure, dynamic range, and colors remain good.
While it lacks a dedicated telephoto camera, the main shooter is capable of taking 2x shots with a 52mm focal length. Image quality is almost as good as 1x shots, with details well preserved despite the digital zoom.
The ultra-wide camera is decent, too. It’s still not the greatest we’ve seen, but it’s usable. Details and colors are passable, but nothing to brag about.
We’re more than satisfied with the selfie camera. While its quality is far from other 32-megapixel cameras we’ve seen, and its low-light performance could still be better, it captures ample details and realistic skin tones.
You won’t be taking your best photos with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. Still, there’s enough to work with if you like posting on social media, journaling, or making video calls.
Battery and Charging
One of the biggest features of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, in the most literal sense, is its battery. It’s a silicon-carbon battery with 16% silicon content. It’s paired with fast 27W reverse wired charging, allowing you to use the device like a powerbank, while the phone itself comes with a 100W wired charger.
Unsurprisingly, it received the highest score in our battery tests. It lasted for 30 hours and 50 minutes in the PCMark Synthetic Battery Test and 30 hours and 37 minutes in the YouTube Battery Loop Test.
In more real-world use, you can easily get at least 3 days of light to moderate use. Even if you try to drain it, I doubt you’d be able to finish the battery in a day.
Charging speeds were also impressive, and it felt like we were charging a smartphone with a 6,000mAh–7,000mAh battery. A 15-minute charge already brought us from 0–24%, while a full charge took just 1 hour and 17 minutes. See the full charging test below:

Verdict
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is a different kind of Redmi Note device. While the series has traditionally been known for offering killer features at an affordable price, this model takes things a step further with its massive 10,000mAh battery and 100W wired charging.
Its performance is also more than enough for everyday use and most games, while the main camera delivers good results in well-lit conditions. HyperOS 3 also offers plenty of useful features, including a growing selection of AI tools.
However, it isn’t without compromises. The design is fairly generic, the ultra-wide camera is only decent, and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 means you’ll need to lower the settings for more demanding games like Genshin Impact.
Still, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max’s strengths are hard to ignore. Its enormous battery alone makes it stand out from the competition, while the combination of 100W wired charging, a high-quality AMOLED display, durable build, capable cameras, and good performance makes it a compelling option.
At Php30,990, it may no longer be the traditional budget-friendly Redmi Note we’ve come to know, but it remains a well-rounded package for those who prioritize battery life, durability, and a reliable everyday experience.
