After three years, OnePlus has released a successor to its flagship smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2.

The OnePlus Watch 2 has a complex new feature called Dual Engine Architecture for running two operating systems. This enables access to more apps and features like an advanced smartwatch while retaining the long battery life that basic smartwatches have.

So, how it works is, there’s the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 chip that runs on Google’s Wear OS. This gives you full access to all the apps available in the app store. However, it can easily drain the battery like other Wear OS watches.

But if you want longevity, there’s a BES2700 chip that runs on real-time OS (RTOS). It has fewer features but does improve battery life.

You access the Wear OS via the Smart Mode, which will only last you up to 100 hours (~4 days) or up to 48 hours (2 days) with heavy use.

Meanwhile, RTOS is enabled by the Power Saver Mode, which still gives you access to plenty of things like heart-rate tracking, workout modes, notifications, and more. Only this time, the battery can last for up to 12 days.

It is also 5ATM water resistant, MIL-STD-810H compliant, dual-frequency GPS, GALILEO, QZSS, GLONASS, and BDS. Sensors include heart-rate monitoring and, an optical pulse oximeter, and has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for the Wear OS.
