If you’re still using a smartphone running on Android 2.3.7 and older, it may be time for an upgrade.
The Android 2.3.7 was the final form of Gingerbread which was released 10 years ago, way back in 2010. Now, as per a report, devices who are still using devices under this platform will be prohibited from signing in to their Google account.
Google apparently cites safety issues for the move. The change will take effect on September 27, 2021. Once implemented, those who will attempt to sign in their Google accounts on such devices may get “username and password errors”, especially when they attempt to use Google products like YouTube, Gmail, and Maps.
However, being a 10-year-old operating system, not a lot of users may be affected by this change. But if you’re one of them, you can still access Google services via the browser.
Meanwhile, Android 3.0 Honeycomb users can continue signing in to their Google account. But considering the company’s latest move, Honeycomb users may have the same fate soon, too.
