If you want the closest Android smartphone experience Google has intended to deliver, you should get the devices they created themselves. Alas, they just released a new one for 2022, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

Much like an iPhone, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro use in-house hardware and software so they work well together for better efficiency.

Both models will use Google’s Tensor G2 chipset, which was made under Samsung’s 4nm process. It consists of two Cortex-X1, two Cortex-A76, and four Cortex-A55 cores. It then uses a Mali-G710 MC10 GPU.

As per Google, the new Tensor chip is 60% more powerful in machine learning tasks while being 20% more efficient while doing it. This allows both devices to have better camera features like Photo Unblur, Pixel Camera app, and more.

Speaking of which, for the Pro model, you’re getting a 50-megapixel 1/1.31-inch sensor with optical image stabilization. It also has a new speech enhancement feature and can record up to 4K @ 60fps videos and 10-bit HDR.

Next to it is the 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, which now has an autofocus function as it doubles as a macro shooter. There’s also a 48-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens that can do 5x optical zoom.

On the front, we have a 10.8-megapixel selfie camera with a wide field of view of 94 degrees.

That camera sits on top of a 6.71-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 10-120Hz variable refresh rate. Unlike most flagships, the screen is not curved but is protected by the current standard: Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The fingerprint scanner is right beneath the panel.

It then has a 5,000mAh battery, which Google claims can last for an entire day, and has both wired and wireless charging features.

Google also boasts that the handset is entirely made of recycled aluminum and that it is IP68-rated for being dust and water-resistant. Since they are from Google, both models are guaranteed to get 3 major OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

Meanwhile, the vanilla Google Pixel 7 is essentially the same. Only this time, it is smaller as it only got a 6.3-inch panel. The display panel itself has been toned down, too. It now only has a FHD+ resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and no LTPO.

The battery is also smaller 4,355mAh, but it does get Google’s Extreme Battery Saver mode, which could make the device last for up to 72 hours. It shares the same main, ultra-wide, and front cameras, but the telephoto lens is now gone.
