HONOR is one of the most sought-after brands in the foldable smartphone space. Which is why it’s weird that they never had a flip phone — but not until now. Meet the HONOR Magic V Flip.

The company immediately impresses people with its first flip phone. The new HONOR Magic V Flip possibly has the most interesting cover screen. It’s a large 4-inch LTPO OLED panel, which populates almost the entire panel with large punch-hole cutouts for the cameras.

This secondary display is quite packed, too. It has a sharp 1200 x 1092 pixel resolution, with a whopping 1600 nits of peak brightness, 2160Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort, and even a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

The screen is so large that you can run apps on their usual 16:9 aspect ratio without the distraction of the rear cameras. Of course, the main use of the outer screen is to see notifications without having to flip the device open, check the time, use different AOD wallpapers, and use the main cameras for selfies and group photos.

That said main display is a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED foldable screen with the usual 21:9 tall aspect ratio, FHD+ resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 3000 nits of peak brightness, and even has Dolby Vision certification, and BT.2020 color space.

HONOR also managed to have the screen completely flat when opened and entirely closed when folded without gaps. This is all thanks to HONOR’s special hinge mechanism that uses a lightweight steel foil and aluminum frame.

The said cameras on the back are the 50-megapixel IMX906 sensor from Sony that has optical image stabilization and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens that also works for macro shots. A 50-megapixel IMX816 is on the front for selfies.

Under the hood, it’s powered by an old yet still powerful flagship processor: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It is attached to a thin liquid-cooling system with a large heat dissipation area.

The battery has been split into two for a total of 4,800mAh capacity and charges via the speedy 66W adapter.

Software is handled by the latest Android 14-based MagicOS 8.0.
