HUAWEI has unveiled four models of the Mate 70 as its latest flagship series. For now, we’ll be looking at the first two, the HUAWEI Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro.
Both the HUAWEI Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro have LTPO OLED displays with FHD+ resolution, 2500 nits of peak brightness, and Kunlun Glass 2 with basalt fiber tempered glass for extra durability. The vanilla is smaller at 6.7 inches while the Pro’s screen measures at 6.9 inches.
The smaller phone also has a smaller 5,300mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, while the Pro model has a bigger 5,500mAh capacity with faster 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.
Sadly, HUAWEI still didn’t disclose the chipset they used on both devices. But, speculations suggest it’s the rumored Kirin 9100, which is said to have a Cortex-X1 prime core clocked at 2.67GHz.
Both models will have HUAWEI’s 50-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0 and optical image stabilization. There’s also a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The Pro model enjoys a 48-megapixel telephoto glass with 4x zoom while the latter settles for a 12-megapixel periscope but with 5.5x zoom.
The duo is getting the new spectral imaging sensor located in the middle of the camera glass. It can gather more color data for improved skin tones, color accuracy, and shadows.
One interesting change here is the lack of an in-display fingerprint scanner. HUAWEI went with a side-mounted one, which doubles as a power button. What makes it special is that it also works for smart controls like summoning the AI assistant, toggling the flash, and more.
For the software, they will ship with HarmonyOS 4.3 but will be updated to the new HarmonyOS Next soon.
First available in China, the HUAWEI Mate 70 has a price of CNY5,499 (~Php40,800) for the 12GB/256GB model, CNY5,999 (~Php44,500) for the 12GB/512GB, and CNY6,999 (~Php51,900) for the 12GB/1TB. The Pro model is available with the same variants for a price of CNY6,499 (~Php48,200), CNY6,999 (~Php51,900), and CNY7,999 (~Php59,300), respectively.
