No pandemic will stop Huawei from unveiling its first flagship devices for 2020. Meet the new Huawei P40 and P40 Pro.

Just like the previous models, the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro will share the new processor that came with the last Huawei Mate devices. With that, what we’ll be having here is the Kirin 990 chipset, with select countries getting the 5G variant that has higher clock speeds.

Of course, the highlight of these smartphones are their cameras. The Huawei P40 series will be the first to have a 50-megapixel UltraVision RYYB sensor with optical image stabilizer (OIS) and a bright aperture of f/1.9.

The Huawei P40 Pro has another RYYB sensor with a 40-megapixel resolution. This ultra-wide shooter was built around video recording. Just like the Cine camera on the P30 Pro from last year.

The Huawei P series are known for their telephoto capabilities. The P40 Pro will boast a SuperSensing zoom feature that can offer 50x of hybrid zoom using the 12-megapixel lens, and some help from the other cameras.

It may not be as staggering as the 100x zoom of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, but we’re expecting better quality out of this.

On the front, we have a large 6.58-inch OLED screen with a fast 90Hz pixel resolution, although the resolution is still at FHD+. A wide punch-hole is seen on the top left of the screen that houses the 32-megapixel selfie camera and a 3D depth sensor for a more secure face unlock.

The Huawei P40 Pro will have a price of EUR999 (~Php55,700) for the 8GB/256GB. Available in Europe starting April 7, 2020.

The 40-megapixel Cine camera is now only a regular 16-megapixel ultra-wide shooter and the telephoto lens now only has an 8-megapixel sensor.

On the upside, the 50-megapixel UltraVision main camera was kept, alongside the OIS support. It will also be powered by the same Kirin 990/5G processor.

And for those who are worried, both the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro will still ship with Android 10. Although, with no Google Mobile Services (GMS) support. On the upside, a lot of improvements have been made with their own Huawei Mobile Services and the company’s alternative to Google Play Store, the Huawei App Gallery.

The Huawei P40 will be available in Europe starting April 7, 2020 for EUR799 (~Php44,400). The Huawei P40 series’ release details in the Philippines are yet to be announced. Update: Huawei P40 and P40 Pro prices in the Philippines
