LG announced an upgrade to the Optimus G aptly called as the Optimus G Pro. So what’s new with this device? You probably knew it, it’s the 1080p full HD display – the trend for high-end smartphones this year. Sure, the Optimus G already packs the top-notch specs that you’d want, but in order to compete in this competitive market, LG needs to do something.

Other brands like Sony and HTC already have their own Full HD smartphone so it’s only a matter of time before we see manufacturers to catch up on the race. Without wasting much time, LG decided to hop in to the party. So that leaves Samsung out, but we don’t want to count them out as they might even give us a shocking flexible display and 8-core processor.

Now back on the LG Optimus G Pro, it packs a 5-inch Full HD Display resulting in a higher 440ppi against the Optimus G’s 4.7-inch and 312 ppi. It also has a minor CPU bump of an extra 200MHz making it a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon Pro processor to partner up with the huge 2GB RAM. With that configuration, it makes Android 4.1 feel smoother and much better.

Aside from hardware upgrades, the LG Optimus G Pro has some software tricks up on its sleeve as well. LG also introduced an app called Slide Apps, which makes widget-like applications like a  calculator or calendar persist on the top UI layer, above any app that you’re currently on. Another one is the new video-recording mode called as Dual Video, which enables you to record a picture-in-picture view on both the main and front camera simultaneously. The two videos will be saved together and they can’t be saved in two separate files for now. Cool, isn’t it?

Lastly, to support the increase in CPU power and high resolution screen, the Optimus G Pro bears a bigger 3000mAh battery which is a really important improvement from the 2100mAh of the 1st generation. If you want to enjoy a powerful smartphone, you’d want it to last at least a day, right?
