After Google released the big Android 11 update, we’re starting to see OEMs introducing their own UI to go on top of it. One of them is Samsung with its latest One UI 3.0.

Since its initial version, we have nothing but praises to the Samsung One UI. Especially because it’s a much cleaner and straightforward interface than its predecessor, the infamous TouchWiz.

Samsung One UI 2.0

About three years later, we’re now getting the Samsung One UI 3 update. This latest one is currently in the beta stage and has been seeded on developers in South Korea and the US.

We were able to got the One UI 3.0 Beta official changelog to see what we can expect in Samsung devices’ big update. It includes a couple of new features that are native to Android 11, with a couple of touches from Samsung themselves.

Samsung One UI 3.0 features

  • Lock screen
    • The Dynamic Lock Screen has been added with more categories.
    • Improved widgets.
  • Home screen
    • Touch and hold an app to add a related widget.
    • Double-tap an empty area to turn off the screen. Adjustable in the Motions and Gestures settings.
  • Improved Always-on widgets
  • View conversations and media more conveniently by sections on the quick panel when you swipe down from the home screen.
  • Samsung Keyboard
    • Keyboard settings are much easier to find under General management.
    • Keyboard settings are reorganized for easier configuring.
  • Accessibility
    • Quick access to the most important accessibility during the device setup.
    • Get accessibility features recommendations depending on your usage.
    • Easier accessibility shortcut setting.
    • Sound detectors now compatible with SmartThings devices, doorbell rings, or a baby crying.
  • Internet
    • Ability to block websites from redirecting you when tapping the back button.
    • Warnings and blocking options on websites with tons of pop-up ads and notifications.
    • Rearranged menu to find settings easier.
    • New add-ons like website translation.
    • Option to hide the status bar.
    • Max number of open tabs now up to 99.
    • Ability to lock and re-order tabs.
    • Improved tab bar design.
    • Ended support for Samsung Internet edge panel.
  • Samsung DeX
    • Connect to supported TVs wirelessly, just like on the Galaxy Note 20 series.
    • Added touchpad multi-gestures for screen zoom and font size adjustments.
  • Ability to customize call screen with personal pictures or videos.
  • Contacts and Phone
    • Edit multiple linked contacts at one time.
    • Option to quickly delete duplicate contacts.
    • Improved searching experience.
    • Trash storage period extended to 30 days from 15 days.
  • Create trash bin for recently deleted messages
  • Turn on/off Call and Text on other devices with Bixby Routines.
  • Improved Reminder layout for full-screen alerts.
  • Calendar
    • Improved layout for full-screen alerts.
    • Events with the same start time are now grouped together in month and agenda view.
    • Reorganized options for adding and editing events.
  • Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls
    • New Phone usage tune while driving to the weekly report.
    • Included trends on weekly reports to see if your users have changed from the previous week and see usage time on each feature.
    • New lock screen widget to easily check your screen time.
    • New separate profiles for work and personal modes to track them separately.
  • Camera
    • Improved auto-exposure and auto-focus functionality and usability.
    • Stabilization when taking moon pictures at high zoom levels has been improved.
  • Revert edited pictures to original versions on the Photo Editor.
  • Bixby Routines
    • See what actions are reversed after a routine.
    • Preset routines are now grouped so you can easily learn how to build your own.
    • New conditions like specific start time, disconnection from Bluetooth or WiFi, call from a specific number, and more.
    • New actions like talking to Bixby and accessibility actions.
    • Add a customized icon for each routine to the lock screen for quick access.
